Lost In Davenport 1/16/2001
by "Stardust" John Peacock

Well, hopefully nothing will insane will happen over the issue of Diamond
Storms, but don't expect me not to touch on it today. However, with Snow Day
this coming Saturday, and Ben and I's huge match for the pF title (perhaps
my last defense down here before Feb. 3rd), I'd like to stop anything before
it stops.

A positive note: Let's all give Ty a huge round of thanks for making the DWF
page 100 times better then it was before. It's become common knowledge that
a lot of times I just don't have the time to get things done on the page,
and although when I do update it's well done, the quality of the page
suffers and thus makes the fed look bad (the internet being one of more
major routes of exposure).  So getting Ty there in the co-webmaster role is
a great idea, putting all the coding and junk on my FrontPage should be done
this week, and all will be good.

Now watch me and Ty cross signals and the page will be screwed up every
other week, it will be, it's the DWF luck.

The last Oshkosh trip went well, I have to say Jake (Snake Fight) probably
enjoyed himself more then any other DWF'er I've taken.  The guy just loves
wrestling, it really shows. Jake went up to pF as DWF midcarder and future
MBH Champ, but came back ready to move higher in the fed. His match with JJ
over this last weekend was maybe the most well timed match of the
tournament, both guys knew what they were going to do going in, and they
almost everything perfectly.  This is impressive because JJ has only been
wrestling 5 or 6 months, while Jake's been here just about the same time.
Really impressive job guys, way to go.

In fact, despite booking conflicts, the New Years Revolution Tournament went
really damn well, I can't say there was a bad match on the whole card. Every
match served it's purpose and in the end we were left with the most unlikely
DWF World Champion ever, Tybolt Lemur.  Pat (Tybolt) has earned it though,
as he has maybe the best gimmick in the fed, and some of best laid back
hilarious mic skills I've ever seen.  As a worker, Pat has his share of
moves and the goofiest finisher in the DWF, which actually he does now with
enough force to make it a believable finish.  Though he might not really
care about being the champ, the huge payoff this weekend was just a way of
saying thank for everything. Pat's always right on time (which in a backyard
fed is amazing) and he never once has complained. Thank you

Ok, now we'll get to Diamond Storm....excuse me while I duck and cover...

Let's get some things clear right from the start. I called Rich Friday night
when I got home from work to remind him of the DWF taping that Saturday (i
think, my memory can be bad), and he tells me there's a DWF meeting over at
Bens. Rich picks me up to get over, and I as always fear that shit will go
down which is going to screw with the weekends really damn good card.

So we get to Ben's, no Ty, he has people over at his house and really can't
make it.  This is the first issue and I already got the ok from Ty, but from
now we've agreed on no booking meetings unless me AND Ty are there.

Anyway, we're (Rich, Ben, and myself) are all in Ben's kitchen making some
dinner and Ben says "We're going to suspend Patrick". Now I'm all wide eyed
cause 1. Patrick is working a major angle which finally get him a set place
in the DWF after a few months of jobbing and just sitting around and 2. NO
ONE EVEN CLEARED IT WITH ME. Ok, HELLO! Who's the final say? Ty and John!
Suspending Patrick pushes back his angle, which pushes back JJ's angle,
which messes with the next show, ect ect ect!

I simply ask who decided on it and Ben says "Me and Ty". Ok, now if Ty's in
favor of this I can go along with it, so I decided with Rich and Ben that a
month would be ok, but I'd take all that time to work with Patrick in all
aspects of the DWF (workrate, mic work, ect). Because I recruited them, I'll
always take the stance that they are my responsibility. It's common knowledge
and everyone seems ok with it that JJ (should he not do anything really
dumb) is set to take my place at the forefront along with whoever is here
next year when myself, Pat, Tim, Lou, and Ty are all of at college. Simply
put, JJ and Patrick are the next generation of the DWF, they'll be bringing
guys in when I'm gone and all that.

So it's decided upon, not too much to my liking, but whatever pleases Ben,
Ty, and Rich.  I agree swearing needs to be toned down, but sacrificing a
really good angle and perhaps lowering Patrick willingness to come isn't
worth it. And for the record, about Patrick's potential, who here was that
great when they started either? He's a sophomore in HS right now for crying
out loud! It's there Ben, he can bump (something I'll admit I'm not that
great at) and he sure as hell can learn (watch the matches with JJ, they
know the spots, if he can work with us like he does with JJ, he's set in the
DWF).

Well, as it turns out Ty wasn't exactly clear on the suspension. He said
Ben had mentioned it to him and he had said it might be a good idea.
MIGHT!!!! In other word we have another case of Ben speaking for Ty. This is
where I get angry, because I'm sick of that being pulled on me.  This is why
the meeting rule is being set, as I realized me and Ty rarely are in the
same room when the booking is done. Ty and I are the final say. Of course
ideas are welcome, and I usually try my best to run everything by the guys
and ask them if it's ok. Now Ben had a problem with the Bum in Blue angle
and again made it sound like Ty did TOO!!! This is AFTER Ty had READ THE
BOOKING HIMSELF (I watched him do it) and SAID everything was good! I don't
mind making changes, but I don't like people either 1. talking about it
behind my back then not telling me or 2. talking for other people.

Ok, I'm just going to end up rambling now and I'm going to go pray nothing
comes of this other then a few things getting though to everyone. I've put
too much of my own personal money, time, my friends time, my fathers
patience, and everything else to let things get out of control and watch up
and coming workers get screwed over doing something we all do!

To be fair to Patrick and to Ben (who seems more into the idea of taking
Patrick off for a month then Rich and Ty), I'm going to sit down tonight and
watch every DWF show that Patrick has been at. I have a good hear and can
hear just about anything during a backyard match. By Friday I hope to have
everything watched and a count of how many "shits" and "fucks" I hear that I
know are Patrick. heh, i'll keep track of everyone. If the number I get from
Patrick is small, no suspension. If it is noticable and does take away from
the match being done in the ring and hurts the commentary and thus hurts the
public access show, he will be taken off DWF cards for a month, talked to,
and then worked with on everything like I said before. That's fair to
everyone, and that's all I want.
