Lost In Davenport 12/7/2000

Everyone seems to be talking about the futures of pF, of Rob and Rich, of
Justin and James leading the way and all of that, so why shouldn’t I?  September’s Royal Battle (three way with Justin, Shane, and me) marked my one year anniversary working with pF. Only a year?  A show like WD: March Into Spring seems like it happened five years ago, not seven months ago. Oh well, time flies by.

So it looks like next March/April marks the end of two of the most
impressive backyard careers in the history of the “sport”.  I’m kinda not sure what to say about Rob and Rich leaving the wrestling aspect of pF, show will seem different..... Ok, now anyone reading this who thinks I can’t comment on pF shows cause I don’t work a regular schedule with them please stop. Totaling it all up I’ve put in nearly 90 hours on the road for pF and probably about more then month of the last year in Oshkosh, so there. Now back to the column.
Perhaps the big retirement is needed, not to say I want Rob and Rich to
leave, not at all. First thing is health, if their bodies can’t take the toll they
shouldn’t risk the next 5-10 years of their regular lives for the sake of a few more matches.  Them on the sidelines doing the business side of pF will help everything keep direction as Rob and Rich
won’t have to worry about their own matches. Just booking, training and
other company improvement things.  And if I needed two guys running the backstage stuff here in the DWF (wait...I do) I couldn’t think of two other outta fed guys I’d trust.

The other reason this all may be for the best is it’s a chance for the
newer guys (Smooth, AJ, Stevie, Destructo) to step up and start creating the pF that will be Indy in 2001.  The trend of the “new blood” coming to the forefront can be seen even a little bit during the last few months with Justin’s almost legendary pF title reign.  Justin to me represents the changing of the guard for pSyChO Fed.   Like Rob said, this is the guy recieving the torch come March.  Justin’s already proven he can be the top card guy and I’m a huge mark for his title reign as the number of defenses and variety of challengers has been wonderful.
Along with Justin are James and Shane up there at the top.  James brings a
true enjoyment of the sport and knowledge of match construction that all the new
guys should learn.

Psychology is a wonderful thing to practice in matches, and I think James, Rob and Rich can really help the new breed develop it.   Shane I’d like to say is the
person in pF I enjoy working most with, and in ring he’s helped me a ton over the past year. I was talking with Tim (Papa Fly) earlier today at school about the trip this weekend, basically saying if there’s anything you ever want to work on, Shane can help work you through it.

Is this a kiss ass column? I don’t think so, in all honesty I have no
problem with anyone up there, I couldn’t say anything bad. I sat through the madness of SCX week (heck, it’s on tape, quite hilarious to watch now).  Besides, anyone who knows me knows I hate to slander anyone, I have a ton of guilt so don’t look for me to air dirty laundry here should I get some.

You may also ask why I didn’t mention myself when talking about the future
of pF, and frankly I don’t see myself as a big part of it. Rob knows, and we at
the DWF know, come end of July next summer I’m done with BYW. At least on a regular basis, I’m getting set to attend the University of Iowa and college comes before BYW.   But a career retrospective column comes later.
So to close this little bit up, it’s time for the new guys to step up and hit a home
run.  The round robin tournament (a first in BYW!!!!) starting this weekend
is a great chance.  The new guys are quite impressive, I’ll site my match with Eric
Smooth as the best match i’ve work with a guy I’ve never seen work before.   It’s up to them to make pF indy in 2001.

DWF Newz:  Papa Fly is BACK! Yep, we here at the booking team (Ty and
myself) breathe a collective sigh of relief as Tim said he’d finally be able
to wrestle again this Christmas break!  And so the DWF mega match of the year will be happening, as Soilent Green (now an evil heel, I want to call him “Soilent Mean” but Ty’s not to hot to that) vs Papa Fly is set.  Their first match I’ll admit was a bit slow, but hey, that was 7 months ago!  Looking at the last three months, everyone has improved 100000% percent, it’s almost an entirely different fed then a year ago.

This time last year we had four guys, Papa Fly, Soilent Green, Rocky
Relentless, and myself as the not defending world champ. Exciting isn’t it? But
something happened along the way to the point where right now I can actually say with pride we’ve become one of the top backyard feds in the Midwest.  This is a big thank you to all the guys for the help and dedication.
The next few weeks for us Iowa boys is basically business junk until the
holidays arrive.  Right now, thanks to Ty the webpage is actually getting some life
back in it, and I’m working on scoring us a public access deal. Yahoo......anyway

Ok, I can’t write anymore, it’s midnight and I just did that last paragraph
after just now getting home from work. My mind is a blank, so I’ll be back with another column on Monday after the Oshkosh trip. Take care.
