Lost
In Davenport: 7/1/00
by Stardust (aka John Peacock)
Hi anyone
reading this. I'm back from spending 10 days away from wrestling (pro or
backyard) and feeling quite refreshed. After the weirdness of the last month and
half, it's good to come home and just be able to focus on the summer for the DWF
and SCX (Less then a week away!). I guess I'll touch on both of these things in
this column, nothing better to talk about.
-Right now
the DWF I fear may slip into a period where we don't do much at all. We've had
these before, some a lot worse then others. Coming back into town and the net
Tuesday, I really hoped to do a card this week to kick off Soilent Green's
summer as World Champion, but the weather and the added joy of not knowing where
he is kinda stopped that idea. Right now w/o Soilent there, the shows are going
to suffer to the point it's not much worth doing. The Rocky fiasco has left us
with Papa Fly, Tybolt Lemur, Soilent, and Myself as the only regular workers,
not good at all. Madman
looks to slowly be getting back into more on camera work, but no promises.
Either way, things aren't looking up at all down here and it's already July.
As I said
before, this isn't the first time we've had a dry spell, and this one isn't
certain. Two before really changed a lot in the DWF. 1998 was our first entire
year as a fed, but we had such a long period of not working that the main event
of our first ever big card was shot in two part and two different times during
the year!! That's as bad as reshooting spots in a match to make sure they look
good! During the time between the beginning and end of the match, rifts grews
between some of our main workers at the time, and that's why a few people whose
profiles might be on our page don't wrestle for us anymore.
The second
dry spell occured right after we finished the match I mentioned above, this one
lasting from August 1998 to June 1999!!! Oddly enough, this might have been the
best things, gave everyone a time to relax and stuff, and when we came back, the
ones who came were the guys who really wanted to start a fed. So along with Papa
Fly we had a new group. I could go into more detail about DWF history, but I'll
need future topics for this article
:)
So from
June last year til now, we've run a pretty good schedule, and I'd like to thank
Madman, Papa Fly, Soilent Green, and hell, even Rocky for all showing up and
putting effort into it. Tybolts get thanks for coming in and helping build up
the fed more. Things are really looking up if we can't avoid month w/o working,
here's hoping for the best.
-Now the
SuperCard hype! The week of SuperCard is coming up quickly and I only have one
and half days of work left to go. Joy. Of course, the morning after SuperCard
there's a meeting at my job at 8 am so I gotta get out of Oshkosh almost right
after the show to make it home, but whatever.
I spoke in my last column that was worried about working SuperCard, but those worries are going away bit by bit, SuperCard showdown I get to work with Rich once before the big one so that should go a long way. I'm looking forward to working with Violence hopefully in the eight man tag at SC Showdown. Violence and I have been trying to have a match for about two years now believe it or not, so I guess our feud has been running that long off camera. As far as the tournament goes, first round I'm looking forward to seeing Doug-Violence most of all. Watching interpromotional matches is really enjoyable. Justin-Rob also looks to be the best match of the first round, and heck, I wouldn't be too surprised if Justin got the upset....wait....he's not over, nevermind. Just kidding,
I don't
have a clue whose walking away from SC with the belt. Shane-Ricky should be good
to watch, at least from my point of view, because I've only seen Ricky in brawls
so far.
The second round really looks to be good no matter who advances, but I'll throw in my who I'd like to see. Let's go with Rob vs Shane and Rich vs Violance in the second round, both soild matches, one which hasn't happened yet, and I don't think Rob and Shane have met since Shane's heel turn. Rich vs Violance is more interpromotional FUN! As for finals.....well, Rich vs. Rob just seems like the best finals I guess, I would have gone with Rob vs. Doug a couple weeks ago, but Rob beat Doug at SoD 2000. So there you go with my SuperCard predications...oh yeah?
Who should
win? I can't really tell, I'm actually pulling for the Bobcat to take the gold!
Either
way, the World Title Tournament looks to be A LOT better then KOTR this year!
Well, my
break from work (two shifts today) is just about over, so I'm out of here for
now. I might try to get in another article before I leave on Monday, but if not,
I'll be back after SC with a full report, take care.
