Lost
in Davenport 8/5/2000
By Stardust (Aka John Peacock)
Well, I
had a column almost ready to go last night, but then IE crashed and destroyed
that. Knowing not to make the same mistake again, I opened up Microsoft Works
and began again, but this was around 3 am or so and I was too tired to finish
it. Somewho or another, I didn't get time today and I'm typing a BRAND NEW
column on my grandma and aunt's computer in Iowa City, an hour away from my
orginal piece....isn't technology grand. Anyway, let's get right into this.
We're just
going to do this quick random notes style today! Next column I promise something
a bit more exciting, really.......I do.
-Thought's
on Doug Danger quitting: His loss, I haven't been around to see it all but from
what I heard, if Doug's messing himself up or something then it's his fault. If
his injuries are real, it's not hard to cut a promo on a bad foot, that just
shows a lack of effort. And if Doug truly just doesn't want to be in pF, then he
should have just said so and bypassed this whole thing altogether. Case closed.
-In what I think is a first for us, DWF's has been forced to tape our next show
in two parts!? Only reason is to fit in with Soilent's schedule, so I guess it's
worth it. The next column will deal with what went wrong with Soilent' title
reign, and why things happened the way they did.
-I thought the shows pF had last weekend went OK. I'll say I'm never ever happy
with whatever I do, and the match with me and Rich may have been the worst match
i've ever done, I'll take responsiblity partly for it thought, cause my
imitations suck. Everything else was cool. Rob-Shane was quite good, as was
Justin-Shane. The rust from the post-SC layoff showed (not to knock anyone) but
effort was there, hell, it was fun, and that can be what's important a lot of
the time.
-Can anyone tell i'm really tired and have nothing to talk about?
-Picked up Drain STH's first CD (Horror Wrestling) today, pretty good stuff,
though I really can't judge anything until i listen to it more then once. Also
picked up some weirdo Nico stuff today that I don't think anyone other then me
is into, but this is column filler. Listening to a Sting CD I found around my
aunt's house, about two good songs on this from what I can pay attention to. Oh
boy.....I also have some imitation Mountain Dew to drink.
-We're just about a day or two away from announcing the huge August 20th pF/DWF
show here in Iowa. I'm more then happy to have the DWF has the first fed pSyChO
Fed goes out of state to visit, and I'm hoping everyone can turn it up 100000
degrees over the next few weeks. I really can't go into the matches we're
looking at putting on, but trust me, the pairing I think are really well done to
have DWF guys working with pF guys that can mesh easily, which is going to be
important considering the lack of experience on our side (half our workers only
having one year of backyard matches). I'm looking forward to this show A LOT,
the new "The Bookers" stable is already hot and it'll be great to
bring it down here.
-A message to Violence: HEY, EITHER MOVE TO OSHKOSH OR AT LEAST CHECK YOUR
E-MAIL!!!!! that is all.
-I came across another backyard federation based in Davenport recently, but
haven't really looked into contacting them only based on their web page design
and overall presentation. No real info on their fed is given on the fed other
then they are located in Davenport.
I know it's dumb to base a fed on it's web page, but in BYW it's the one medium that really helps a fed look good to those who haven't seen it yet. Example is the EDW webpage, me and Violence (I think it's him) were both tricked by reading their match descriptions and their hardcore claims and bought their tape.
WHOA! yeah, they are wrestling in an animal cage, but hitting with those foam noodles doesn't really count as "hardcore". Not that I can say anything, cause I can't work a hardcore style, but I'll be the first to say I can't. Another good example of webpages helping a fed "get over" to first time visitors is the old pF prodigy (spelling is bad) page. It was loaded with info on the pF, graphics, current results, and all that stuff. Sure, it took a while to load, but it made sure the visitor knew all they could about the pF.
And thanks
to Rob for telling me to ditch the blue background on the DWF page.
-There's a
Spice Girls sketch pad about 3 feet from me in a wastebasket....is that
symbolism? write to me and see if you can figure out the hidden meaning, and
I'll give you a mention in this column.
-The above
note is the dumbest thing I've ever written. Well, I'm totally out of even
halfway important things to say. This column should be updated again on Monday
with a look into why Rocky Relentless was given the World Title and what
happened with Soilent. Maybe even a few others things. Take care everyone.
